So, if you’re ready to get stuck into some DIY, simply follow this guide to ensure you get the right measurements for your windows.

How to measure for window blinds and shades

First thing’s first, you need the right equipment to accurately measure your windows. We always recommend taking any measurements with a steel ruler or tape and recording in millimetres (mm) rather than centimetres (cm), to ensure the result is as accurate as possible.

Helpful tip: When measuring, always look out for things that may be an obstacle for your new blinds or shutters, like window handles or tiles. Remember to take their position into account if necessary, to ensure a perfect fit when it comes time to install.

What to measure

Grab a piece of paper and use the metal measuring tape to measure the height and width of your window frames. Whether you’re measuring to fit your blinds within the window recess or outside it, we have all the info you need to get the correct measurements. Visit our ‘Measuring’ page to learn more about how to measure inside mount blinds and how to measure for blinds outside the mount.

Helpful tip: While it might seem easier to just type the measurements out into your phone, it can be easy to make a mistake this way. Call us old-fashioned, but we always recommend using a pen and paper to record window measurements.

Measure multiple times

This part of the process is absolutely crucial to ensuring you get the right blinds for your windows. After you’ve measured once, be sure to measure at least two more times, to be absolutely sure you’ve got the measurements correct. The last thing you want to do is place an order with the wrong measurements and end up with blinds that don’t fit your windows.
