Christmas Window Ideas and Decorations

It's the most wonderful time of year: Christmas! I love decorating the tree, making gingerbread and wrapping presents just as much as anyone, but I always like to go the extra mile. I don't stop at just decking the halls for the holidays, even my windows, curtains and blinds make a festive statement.

Read on to find out how yours can, too!

6 Christmas Window Ideas

    1. Hanging delights

Make your home more festive than the North Pole with hanging ornaments, lights and ribbons. These can all be easily suspended from the blinds or curtains that are already hanging in your windows and help to bring the Christmas aesthetic to every corner of the house.

Transparent glass ornaments are particularly beautiful when hanging in the windows, as they catch the light and create gorgeous patterns when the sun hits them.

    1. Season's greetings

Grab an erasable white marker or chalk pen and write a cute, festive message on the glass of your windows. It's sure to put a smile on the faces of any neighbours or passers-by.

If words aren't your thing, have some fun and draw on some reindeer, Santa, stars or snow, to name a few things. Just get creative and go nuts with it!

Tip:

Clean and dry your windows before you get creative for the best possible results.

    1. Star light, star bright

Have sheer curtains installed? Create a dreamy window setting with a star-shaped lantern surrounded by silver and gold baubles. A quick online search will bring up plenty of results for DIY paper star lanterns - a fun craft activity to complete with the kids during the school holidays.

    1. Bring the outdoors in

You simply can't beat the smell of a real Christmas pine tree. However, they can be hard to come across (not to mention difficult to maintain), so if you can't get your hands on one, there are other ways you can incorporate living plants into your holiday decor.

Dwarf lemon cypress trees are a much more manageable size and smell absolutely amazing. For even smaller alternatives, try grabbing a bunch of greenery or seasonal flowers and popping them in a vase to create a Christmas centrepiece.

    1. Simple and sweet

Venetian blinds are perfect for controlling light and privacy in your home. They're also perfect for hanging candy canes! To add some festive (and flavoursome) flair, tilt the horizontal slats so that the curved ends of the candy canes can hook onto the slats.

The end result? A super cute Christmas window and a tasty snack for any holiday guests!

    1. Light up the night

Finally, make your window sparkle with the addition of some coloured or white Christmas lights. Whether your drape them around the frame, hang them over the blinds, or place them around the window sill, this is an easy way to ramp up the Christmas cheer.
