Top tips for cleaning blinds
As a self-confessed clean freak, there’s nothing I love more than sharing cleaning tips and tricks. Keep reading for the best ways to make your windows and indoor blinds look brand-spanking new, whatever your budget!
$ Low budget
Without looking in your cupboards, I can pretty much guarantee that you already have everything you need to make your windows sparkle. Simply mix one-part distilled vinegar with one-part hot water, then wipe it on your windows with a sponge. Once the surface grime has been removed, use a clean squeegee to wipe the window and give the glass a final rinse with an all-purpose cleaner and warm water. Then, just dry with a clean cloth.
$$ Medium budget
If you’re willing to spend a little more, it can be worth upgrading from vinegar and hot water and investing in a special window cleaner. My tip: Consider how the product smells and its impact on the environment before you buy, as ammonia-based cleaners (like Windex) often have a harsh chemical smell that can be quite unpleasant in your home.
$$$ High budget
If you’re super pedantic about cleaning (and your budget allows), I’d also recommend buying a high-powered window vacuum, like a Karcher. With these babies you can enjoy completely clean and streak free windows!
Cleaning Indoor Blinds
Regularly cleaning your indoor blinds is the great way to stop grime from building up. It’s also my top tip for extending the lifespan of your window treatments.
To clean horizontal or vertical blinds, simply give them a once over with a vacuum brush attachment, working your way down from the top of the blinds. Then, give them a wipe using a microfibre towel and a bowl of warm, soapy water. If you have fabric blinds, all you need to do is give them a vacuum from time to time, which can be easily done without taking the blinds down.
